Finding Comfortable Recliners For Tall Men & Women (5’10” to over 6’2″)

A popular feature of a living room or rec room is a recliner chair, but if you are tall then you can have trouble finding one of these chairs that is a good fit for your long frame. Most of the time your ankles just dangle off the end of the leg rest.

Fortunately, you can find special made recliners for tall people that allow you to recline back and relax without your legs dangling off the end.

How To Shop For Recliners For Tall People

As you may already know, there are two main problems when it comes to using a recliner chair as a tall person – you need the leg part to actually be long enough for your legs and you need the back to be tall enough for your upper body so that your head is not hanging off the top of the chair when reclined back.

The easiest way to shop for recliners for tall men is to check out the dimensions, or measurements, for the back of the chair and the leg extension part of the chair. As you can imagine, it can be more than a little difficult to actually find these recliners in-stock at local furniture stores. As a result, they often have to be purchased online and delivered to your home.

The good thing about this is that you do not have to worry about getting the chair from the furniture store and into your living room. The bad thing about this is that you do not have any chance to sit in the chair and test out its comfort level before it ends up in your living room. Granted, you can’t be too choosy when it is this difficult to find a chair that you comfortably fit in. I know, because my cousin Chris is over 6-feet tall and has gone through this exact problem.

The one drawback to this one that some people might have is that you might not like the color that it comes in. Whatever you see on the Amazon page linked above is the correct information of what is currently available.

Of course, the obvious drawback of this recliner chair is that it only comes in this one camo color, which won’t work with most home decor. So, you might have to stick this one in the man cave!

These are just the best chairs out there according to my cousin. And while your options are limited when it comes to tall recliners, there are a few additional models available to buy online.

Why You Really Need The Right Size Recliner If You’re Tall

Sitting in a recliner that doesn’t fit your body can cause unnecessary pain. When you spend a long period of time in an ill-fitting chair, you may experience:

  • Neck Pain
  • Back Pain
  • Leg/Ankle Pain

This is because the cushions and leg rest don’t align with your neck, back, and legs. For example, if the neck cushion pushes your neck forward because you’re too small for the recliner – you’ll experience neck pain.

Also, your ankles will hurt if they hang off the leg rest while you’re reclined. Picking a recliner that fits your body type will help you get the most out of your lounging.
